Respect to the Lowly

Psalm 138:6 Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.
The Christian does rejoice knowing that the Lord is higher than the rest in so many ways. His ways and thoughts are higher than ours, Isaiah 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. The Lord compares the obvious fact the heavens being higher than the earth with the obvious fact that His ways and thoughts are higher than ours; and we should be ok with this instead of questioning or challenging His intelligence and reasoning. God’s people are glad that they have access to the one who sees and knows everything in order that they too can see and know what they need to throughout their lifetime. God leads His dear children along.
The Lord God Almighty is also high in mercy, and again he uses the distance from heaven to earth to measure the amount of mercy that He extends. Psalm 103:11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. He is very merciful, but only to them that fear Him. And so it is very important to have the right perspective of God, His location, love, and feelings toward people; which brings us to the main focus of the Psalm above in the words YET HE HATH RESPECT UNTO THE LOWLY. The lowly are those that are cast down and that do not have any self-worth. Who was it that Jesus dwelt amongst and helped during His earthly ministry? Was it the rich and famous? Absolutely not. Was it those that had their names on the billboards or the front page of the newspaper for notoriety and fame? No way Jose. Who is it that God has respect toward? Can we even believe that as high as He is that He respects anyone? If it were not for His own word informing us that He respects the lowly we may never believe it. The poor widow, the lame, the failures in life, even a tax man that had a good position in life, and also had humility. Truly it is not the size of a man’s financial worth but the size of his self-worth that God is interested in. He said, RESPECT UNTO THE LOWLY, BUT THE PROUD HE KNOWETH AFAR OFF. To be close to God we must be far from our own self-worth.
