Stand Fast Together

Women praying for each other.

1 Thessalonians 3:7-8 Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith: For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord.

It is highly probable that we do not see or fully realize the power of our testimony and how it influences others.  Both the brethren and those that know not the Lord are watching us closely.  Paul elaborated more upon this when he told the church at Corinth; 1 Corinthians 4:9 For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a SPECTACTLE unto the world, and to angels, and to men.  That word spectacle means to show or theatre; meaning that the world was watching the Apostles and Paul, and mostly not to applaud them, but to condemn them.
In the passage of Scripture above with Paul writing to the Thessalonians we find that it was the Apostle Paul that was watching and hearing about the faith of the Thessalonians, and all of this while he was being afflicted and in distress.  Though our faith greatly aggravates those that are lost at times, it also greatly encourages the redeemed.  Paul’s life was not without heartache and opposition.  2 Timothy 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.  And during these great conflicts that he endured he received great comfort knowing that the Christians that he had ministered to and influenced were continuing on with their faith.  Sometimes it is not the faith of the individual Christian that gets him through the difficult times but the faith of others that gets him through.  Here we have the great Apostle Paul, a man of God, telling the church that he started, how much their faith comforted him.  Many preachers are too prideful to admit how much he needs the church for encouragement.  Paul even said, for now we live, IF ye stand fast in the Lord.  It’s almost as if Paul is saying that without the faith of others, it would be very difficult for him continue on.
How very important it is for us to remember that someone who is going through a difficult time may be watching us; and may very well be comforted by our faith in the Lord.  The church at Thessalonica had a very comforting faith.  Let’s stand fast together at Bethel Baptist Church in order that others may live!
