Ezekiel 25:8-11 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because that Moab and Seir do say, Behold, the house of Judah is like unto all the heathen
God here is pronouncing judgment through Ezekiel to the nation of Moab. Moab was the longtime enemy of Israel and here makes a very serious mistake with what they had said about Judah. Saying, Behold, the house of Judah is like unto all the heathen. This is a very serious accusation made about God’s people. The Lord may say anything that he wants about His people whether it be a compliment or criticism. But let not the heathen themselves compare God’s people to themselves. Why did the Moabites categorize Israel with the rest of the heathen? The first reason for placing Israel with the rest of the heathen is because Israel was powerless. God does not allow our enemies to overcome us when we have His power. When we are powerless, then indeed the heathen see no difference in us whatsoever from the rest of the world. There ought to be a difference in Christians, a powerful difference indeed.
The second reason the Moabites saw no difference was because they were looking so very closely at Israel’s faults. The world thinks that God’s people are supposed to be perfect and without faults. And when we do have faults the world makes them to be larger and bigger than they really are and neglects to look closer at our lives discovering that deep within, we love God; that deep within we have sorrow for our sins. So a quick look at a Christian and one will find problems, mistakes, and difficulties. But it is the inward part of a man that must be analyzed and not his faults. This is the second reason that Moab labeled Israel with the heathen.
The third reason for this was to mock God. When God’s people fail the enemies of God rejoice. The world will think us to be no different than everyone else relationship wise with God when we have not His power. One of the most motivating factors for us to have His power and to live a victorious Christian life is that His enemies will not be able to deny His presence in our lives. There is no denying the presence of the Almighty and the difference He makes. Moab proclaimed Israel to be like the rest of the heathen denying His presence. Let us make His presence known by living powerful lives.
