Luke 16:30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
The man speaking in verse thirty in above is a man that is having a conversation with Abraham. There is nothing unusual about people conversing; people have been speaking to one another since Adam and Eve. However, the above conversation is a bit peculiar because the man speaking is in Hell. Hell is a real place, with real people, real torment, and real darkness. This man was allowed to converse with Abraham in order to give us an idea of the torture, loneliness, concern for loved ones, and horrors of hell. We may very strongly suppose that you will not be allowed to converse with others once finding yourself in Hell, if you so choose to go there. Remember, the choice is yours.
This man in Hell begged for a drop of water, but it was too late. All too many believe that life on earth is hell. The problem with this theory, and there are many, is that there is plenty of water here on earth for you to drink. Besides, this conversation took place after the man above was buried, verse 22 of the same chapter.
Ohh if we only knew that once death arrives that it will be too late for many of our enjoyments; too late for a glass of water, too late to mend a relationship, too late to become a friend of the Lord’s, and too late to repent. The man in hell had one desire for his brothers and that was for them to repent; to turn to the Lord for salvation instead of rejecting Him.
For the man that found himself in Hell it was far too late; but it is not too late for you. Won’t you turn to Him today? Won’t you turn from your ways to His? His are far better, but you must, turn.
